Norway Snowfest

The 2010 Norway Snowfest in Norway, Maine
Snowfest had beautiful weather, hard ice. Not great conditions for Snow Drags, but fast times on the ice.

Track Conditions: Windy, Rough, and Icy
Ken’s Yamaha was on hand with a fleet of sleds to demo, although less than ideal conditions limited any real test riding.
Saturday was sunny, the lake’s ice was glaring and we were thankful the wind backed off a bit. Racers reported that the hook up was great, but the course was narrow and bumpy. To get a good run the take off had to be perfect. The wind blew steadily all day as the race went on and spectators found various ways to find shelter. Although it was cold, the pit was alive making for a great day of racing.
There were a few disappointed racers who could not participate in the event this year because of the sanction rules. These sleds had various disqualifying features, one being bared tracks.

There were a lot of spectators on hand all weekend and everyone was in good spirits. Due to the lack of snow, trail riding was non-existent. A few guys showed up from the trail, but they had the right sleds for these rough conditions.

Hard on the throttle, at the start a Yamaha 4stroke came into a 60” wheelie. As the turbo pumped all 450 horses stood straight up and the rider jumped bailed into a perfect break dance style back spin. He recovered slowly and gave the crowd thumbs up. There are not many crashes, let alone crashes like that, in drag racing‚ it was nuts! We didn”t get any of this on tape but it was amazing to see.
There was a VP rep on site selling race fuel, a nice fire blazing, and a big food tent. A bikini calendar shoot was scheduled for Sunday along with radar runs. As we drove out of town past the lake the turnout looked good and if the shoot was happening the girls must have been chilly!!
